I don't see any reason that you couldn't mash the chickpeas before you added them to the soup. This is a flexible soup--there's no wrong way to do it. You can make it more or less brothy, you can mash the chickpeas thoroughly or only a little bit--it's entirely up to you.

i made this soup today & was perturbed by how much broth there is, plus i don't see how mashing a few chickpeas would make any difference (& don't understand why he wouldn't say to mash them before you put the broth in, so you can see what you're doing!). i was making it to freeze so i don't know how it tastes yet, but it doesn't seem like a winner.

We weren't sure about it at all, but I wanted to use the hazelnut flour we had and make something w/o flour - we really liked these, hard not too eat too many.
"Wow!Now, I’m not sure how I feel about surgery for migraines, but if it truly produces significant improvement, then it’s nice to have that as an option. Acupuncture also works well for migraines. I don’t usually see a total elimination of migraines, but a big reduction in frequency and severity. The nice thing about acupuncture versus plastic surgery is that it does not have any of the risks associated with surgery.Read more at the New York Times."

So glad you liked it. Yes, it is on the sweet side. I think less sugar would be a good thing.

The. Best. Blueberry. Pie. Ever. It was decadent, the crust held together and tasted like cookies. It was a little on the sweet side, though. I am going to try it with peaches today and only 1/4 cup sugar!
