What is Chinese Medicine?
Acupuncture is an ancient
healing system from China in which thin needles are inserted into the body
to restore balance and health. The underlying philosophy for acupuncture is
that vital energy (or “Qi”) flows throughout the body. Disease
can arise when the Qi gets out of balance. Acupuncture restores the smooth
flow of Qi, thus restoring health and well-being.
Chinese herbal medicine, as prescribed by a trained herbalist, operates on
the same Qi theory, and often has a profound effect on one’s health.
Combining acupuncture and Chinese herbs can often produce even greater improvements
in one’s health.
Since Chinese medicine takes a more holistic approach to the body, it is also
useful as a preventative therapy. We all have a sense of when our body is
out of balance—stress overwhelms us, aches and pains zap our energy—and
Chinese medicine can help our bodies address these factors before they become
more serious problems.
